Kanae Ootori

Meet Kanae, Akio’s fiancée and the daughter of the school’s bigwig. She’s got a rapier in hand and a serious chip on her shoulder, especially when it comes to fancy-pants Anthy, who keeps her at arm’s length. During her Black Rose interview, she straight-up admits to finding Anthy creepy, which only fuels her fiery hatred in the duel against Utena. Fast forward to the manga’s Final Saga, and things take a turn—Kanae becomes a “Body Without Soul,” silent and still, forever lingering by Akio’s side. In the Utena movie, she briefly lights up the scene dancing with him, then collapses into sorrow when he meets an untimely fate.
