A year after the chaos of Sword Art Online, Kirito gets a surprising visit from Seijiro Kikuoka, who works in Japan's VR Division. Kikuoka has a wild request: investigate the "Death Gun" incident in the gritty VR world of Gun Gale Online, where players shot by a shadowy figure mysteriously die in real life. Skeptical but curious, Kirito jumps into GGO, navigating an unfamiliar landscape to uncover the truth. Along the way, he teams up with Sinon, a skilled sniper packing a massive Hecate II rifle.
